Tips On Clearing Up Your Acne
Even when we have a near-perfect skin regimen, we all get a flare-up from time to time. Here are some ingredients to look for in your skincare products and other tips to help clear up your skin.
1. Benzoyl Peroxide – This ingredient is a must! Benzoyl peroxide comes in handy because it helps to lower the levels of acne-causing bacteria in your skin to help reduce inflammation and breakouts.
2. Salicylic Acid – Another favorite, because this ingredient helps to remove oil and exfoliate dead skin cells.
3. Sulfur – Glytone makes a great tinted acne spot treatment that contains sulfur, which is important because sulfur works similarly to benzoyl peroxide and sulfur acid in that it helps to dry out the surface of your skin and absorb excess oils that may contribute to acne breakouts. It also dries out dead skin cells to help unclog your pores.
4. Cortisone Injection – While this one might not be feasible for everyone, we are always happy to have you stop by our clinic for an injection. An injection directly into the blemish will help to decrease inflammation and flatten it in a day or two.
While our goal in dermatology care is to prevent acne breakouts all together, sometimes breakouts happen. Be kind to your skin and don’t over exfoliate or pick at your blemishes – as this may cause scarring. Instead, use a tiny dot of one of these products. If that doesn’t do the trick, come see one of our medical providers for help on keeping your skin radiant.
